This is an important opportunity to learn the basics of high quality paint analysis from an expert with over 30 years of conservation experience. In one day you will receive background training in planning, on-site analysis and hands-on preparation of paint sampling. At the end of this course you will be equipped with the fundamentals of undertaking paint sampling for yourself while at the same time understanding the pitfalls and benefits of this important analysis.
Salmond Reed Architects is proud to continue its practical seminar series by offering this one day workshop on architectural paint sampling and analysis. We are all interested in continuing to develop our professional skills. Understanding architectural paint research and its practical application is an important field of built heritage conservation. This seminar will provide a professional forum for learning and discussion of this topic in more detail.
Donald Ellsmore is a Heritage Consultant based in Victoria. He is a trained architect with considerable teaching and practical experience and has specialised in the conservation of historic places since the late 1970s. He has worked in both private practice and for government organisations on many varied conservation projects. In 1993 he was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of York for research titled ‘Nineteenth- Century Painted Decorations in Britain and Australia: an Approach to Conservation’. He is currently the Convenor of the Australasian Chapter of the Association for Preservation Technology, and he teaches on many aspects of conservation, in particular architectural finishes.
We believe that this workshop will offer participants a truly unique opportunity to broaden your knowledge of architectural paint analysis, including selection and hands-on preparation of samples, microscopic examination, and understanding the history of architectural finishes in Australasia.
