When: Friday 26 March 2010
Venue: Highwic, Newmarket, Auckland
Duration: 9am - 5pm

Presenters: Bruce Petry (M.Arch, B.BSc, ANZIA), Tracey Hartley (BSc Hons, Grad Dipl Cons AA, MRICS), Phillip Hartley (MA MRICS Dipl. Bldg. Cons (RICS)), Daniel Pollard (MSc Historic Building Conservation).

Salmond Reed Architects are preparing a Lime day seminar for the end of March. The aim of the day is to present a morning seminar giving the basis theory and outline of history of its use in NZ and then followed after lunch on-site demonstrations including practical opportunities to see and work with lime materials.

We hope this will be the first in a number of developing seminars that will reintroduce the use of traditional lime products and techniques which are required when repairing heritage buildings. Lime is an important component in traditional masonry, renders, plasters and mortars but is now also being considered overseas and an alternative to cement in specific situations and as an environmentally friendly alternative.

The seminar will be limited to 30 participants so that there is an opportunity to freely discuss and participate in all activities. Our aim is to establish a network of specifiers and contractors actively involved in the NZ building industry that can promote the use of lime products and technologies. The establishment of the network will allow the sharing of knowledge and experience and providing valuable feedback when required.

If you know of people that you think would be interested please forward this on and ask them to get in contact.
