Salmond Reed has recently managed a project to preserve Sargeson House at 14A Esmonde Road in Takapuna.
This modest fibrolite bach belonged to one of New Zealand’s foremost authors, Frank Sargeson, and was a meeting place for many of his fellow literati.

The Gardner Bros & Parker Downdraught Kiln in New Lynn is a rare survival of the larger brickworks that occupied the site now known as Ambrico Place. Salmond Reed was originally approached by Waitakere City Council in 2007 to carry out a survey of the structure and prepare a specification for its repair.

This cottage was part of the Te Apiti Station formed in 1853 at Kairakau Beach, near Waipawa, south of the Hawkes Bay. Access to the station was only by sea and the “back” cottage was so named as it was the furtherest house on the station from the ocean.

This months picture shows the re-roofing of one of the oldest houses in Auckland City which has been added to over a number of years. The earliest part on the right hand side was constructed in 1857 while the front and left hand side were constructed in the 1860s & 1890s respectively.
