New House at Kawakawa Bay

The opportunity to design a new house is always considered a privilege at Salmond Reed Architects.

In the case of the Kawakawa Bay House the client had, for many years, holidayed on the vast farm property, always with the view to building a generous sized house for themselves, their teenage children, family and friends to enjoy all year round.
The specific site selected on the farm meant nestling the series of four pavilions into the considerable slope of the land. Key features of the client brief were traditional building forms and materials, an expansive deck and clear separation of living and sleeping quarters. The central pavilion houses the open-plan living and dining area. The west wing accommodates the owner’s bedroom and bathroom, and the east wing accommodates the guests quarters. The children’s ‘sleep-out’ pavilion is positioned some distance from the main cluster allowing a degree of independence.

The project is due to be completed by December 08.
