In 2004, this client approached our office with a brief to design a new house on a small rear site in Cheltenham, Devonport.

A 1950s brick veneer bach was removed from the flat site to make way for the construction of a two-storey concrete masonry house. The design brief included the use of traditional materials and design forms. The distinctive sweeping curves of the Spanish Mission style, as found in pockets of Devonport and throughout New Zealand, was adopted for key exterior design elements of the house.

The house is energy efficient - with double glazed joinery, roof mounted solar panels and solid concrete floors and walls for passive thermal storage.

Views of the Hauraki Gulf and Rangitoto Island can be had from the two first floor balconies.

The house was completed in early 2008.
