A private sanctuary offering guests luxury accommodation is designed to capture breathtaking views of the Waitematā Harbour. This new build in one of Auckland's special character suburbs employed traditional gable forms and cedar weatherboard cladding to sit comfortably alongside neighbouring heritage homes.

For this Herne Bay Auckland inner-city villa, our client’s brief called for the removal of a 1980’s makeover and reinstatement of heritage features of the house.

In 2010 our clients sought assistance in carrying out alterations to their century-old home in Epsom. The house was designed in 1908-09 by British-trained architect, Benjamin Charles Chilwell.

Salmond Reed was tasked with breathing new life into a Devonport villa located in Stanley Point, which had been subject to early alterations distorting its original provenance.

Our client’s brief was to design a three-bedroom home on their 47 ha Northland site showcasing the magnificent views of rolling farmland, protected bush and the expansive ocean encompassing Waipu Cove, the Hen and Chickens and Sail Rock.

This cottage dates from the early 20th century and was once the Police Station and Oyster Inspector’s house, when the greatest concentration of Waiheke residents was at the eastern ‘Bottom End’ of the island. It was a largely self-sufficient community providing service to the active coastal trade of the Hauraki Gulf, and beyond to the Coromandel Peninsula.

A landmark merchant villa in Herne Bay, Auckland, was given long overdue attention by its new owners. Salmond Reed Architects was engaged to work closely with client, builder and interior designer to transform what had been a “half-way house” into an attractive large family residence.

This inner-city Auckland villa was refurbished from top-to-toe and side-to-side to meet the needs of a new custodian.

From the street – one of Auckland’s most prestigious - this unassuming transitional villa disguises the collection of rooms and spaces over three levels as it steps down the site on the northern slopes of Remuera.
